Press Freedom and Freedom of Information

We work to advance journalism excellence, free expression and freedom of information worldwide through high-impact projects.

The International Center for Journalists has played a leadership role through the Knight International Journalism Fellowships. This program offers year-long fellowships to qualified journalists worldwide who are matched with high-impact, innovative projects that build skills and enhance the standards of independent news media. • Committee to Protect Journalists: CPJ is the world’s leading monitor of abuses against journalists. It will test Impunity project experiments in Russia and the Philippines. www.cpj.org
• Inter American Press Association: Through the Impunity project, IAPA is making the unpunished killing of journalists, judges and lawmakers everyone’s problem. www.impunidad.com
• University of Texas at Austin: The school's Knight Center for Journalism in the America’s digital media work is expanding. This Includes training journalists in skills that would help them raise journalism standards in their country and offering online training classes in Spanish, Portuguese and English. www.knightcenter.utexas.edu
• American Society of Newspaper Editors: ASNE coordinates Sunshine Week to help raise public awareness and support for open government issues. www.sunshineweek.org
• Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press: The Reporters Committee promotes domestic press freedom and hosts the Coalition of Journalists for Open Government. www.rcfp.org www.cjog.org
